He is boxed in at the start on the front row between Jean-Pierre Beltoise in his magnificent Matra MS 11 and Michel Vaillant in the other Vaillante (#12). In the actual 1968 F1 Grand Prix at Monza, Jacky Ickx finished third in his Ferrari, behind Denny Hulme (McLaren-Ford) and Johnny Servoz-Gavin (Matra-Ford). Jean-Pierre Beltoise finished fifth in his Matra, powered by the unforgettable French V12 engine.
