PANEL FROM THE COMIC BOOK Le Tigre de Malaisie (Volume 19)
FIRST PUBLICATION 1959
AIRCRAFT Grumman F9F-2 Panther

The opening panel of this adventure—set in Southeast Asia—is quite simply one of the most iconic in the series. In it, the creators set the scene (a hot, palm-tree-filled landscape), introduce the main protagonist, and depict the frenetic action unfolding both on the ground and in the air at a US military base. The only thing missing is the soundtrack—but that is for you to hum along to.

This illustration features one of the iconic aircraft of the Korean War. A single-seat fighter designed in the late 1940s, it was produced in a run of 1,382 units. The aircraft notably appears in two war movies released during that same era: “The Bridges at Toko-Ri” (starring William Holden, Grace Kelly, and Mickey Rooney) and “Men of the Fighting Lady”.
